Silver Netting Tag

PSP 9

*NOTE*

Sometimes the links for filters change, it's difficult (and a lot of work) to
keep changing them on individual pages, so I have created a page with
links to filters and programs that I have used in my tutorials.
That way it is easier for me, because when there are changes I will
only have one page to update and hopefully better for you, because I'm
less likely to miss a page out when doing the updates :)

We will open the tube in psp to use it, so you can unzip it into whatever folder
you like as long as you remember where to find it :)

You can use a font of your choice, the font that I used is called Evanescent,
if you want to use the same one, you can get it at DaFont.com.

Please Note*
My tutorials were written for people to learn
from, so PLEASE DO NOT SCRIPT THEM.

Step 1.
Open a new transparent image 300 x 300.
Flood fill with white.
Go to Effects...Plugins...Kang 3...katcradle
use the default settings (my Kang filters are
in Filters Unlimited, so your screenshot may
look a little different to this)

Step 2.
Using the Magic Wand with these settings
mode=replace, match mode=RGB, tolerance=0,
feather=0, antialias=ticked, outside,
click on one of the black sections.
Go to Selections...Modify...Select Color Range...
In the color range dialogue box use these settings
tolerance=200, softness=0, Add colour range,
click on the reference color box and change to black.

All the black areas and some of the grey ones will
now be selected. Press the delete key on the keyboard.

Deselect.

Step 3.
Go to Effects...Distortion Effects...Polar Coordinates...
Choose rectangular to polar and make the edge mode=transparent

Now go to Effects...Plugins...Simple...Top left Mirror

Next we will expand the canvas and add a dark background so
that it's easier to see what we are doing.
Go to Image...Canvas size...
Change the size to 500 x 500, background should be transparent
and in the placement section choose the centre tile.

Go to Layers...New Raster Layer...then
Layers..Arrange...Send to Bottom...
Flood fill this layer with black

Your image should now look something like this (this screenshot
only shows the central image, not the black area around it).

Step 4.
Make the top layer active, go to
Selections...Select All...then
Selections...Float...
Go to Effects...Plugins...Flaming pear...SuperBladePro...
Apply the sg_smooth-silver preset or another preset
of your choice (if you haven't got SuperBladePro, you could
flood fill the selection with a silver pattern and add an
inner bevel for a similar effect). Deselect.

Step 5.
Next we will add the tubed image (you can go to file..open..
etc to open the image, but I prefer to use the browser,
so for this tutorial we will do it this way). Go to
File...Browse...(Ctrl+B)
Use the navigation area on the left to locate the folder that
you unzipped the Hase05_AS.tub into, left click on the thumbnail
of the tube to select it and press the 'Enter' key on the
keyboard (or right click and choose open).

You can use a different tube if you wish,
but you may need to adjust the size).

Go to Edit...Copy...

Make your main image active again and go to
Edit...Paste...Paste as a new layer...

Step 6.
With the layer containing the tube active, go to
Image...Resize...(Shift+S) use these settings
Resample using Bicubic
Lock aspect ratio ticked
Resize all layer unticked
Resize by 80%

Go to Layers...Arrange...Move Down...
You should now have the silver netting on the top layer, the
tube on the middle layer and the black background at the bottom.
Make the top layer active, go to
Layers...Merge...Merge Down...
You should now have 2 layers, the top one containing the tube and
silver netting and the bottom one with the black background.

Use the Mover Tool to move the tube and netting to the bottom
left corner, this will leave space for the text and perspective shadow.

Step 7.
We will make the text curve around the silver netting.
First we must draw a vector ellipse, this can be hidden once the
text is in place. Make your palette foreground and background colours
both white but make the background null while we draw the ellipse.

Activate the Preset Shapes Tool

and use these settings
Shape=Ellipse
Retain style= unticked
Create as Vector=ticked
Antialias=ticked
width=1
Starting at the centre of the silver netting and holding down
the shift key, right click and drag to just outside the edge
of the netting so that the ellipse goes around it.

Activate the Text Tool, then change the background on your
palette from null to color.

The font that I am using is called Evanescent, which I
got DaFont.com, if you want to use the same one, see the
link at the top of the page.

These are the settings that I used (If you are using a
different font, you may need to adjust the size).
Create as Vector
Direction=Horizontal and Down size=100 (highlight the number in the size box
and type it in).
Stroke width=1.00
Antialias=Sharp
Warp text=ticked
Alignment=left
Bold
Auto kern=ticked
Leading=50

Move the mouse across the ellipse in the area that you
want your text to start, when you see the curve with
the letter 'A' right click. I clicked at the top of the
ellipse so that my text started at the top and ran
around the right side. You will probably have to experiment
to get the position right for the length of your name.
There is no right or wrong position, just find where
you think it looks best. Type your name and click 'apply'.

Step 8.
When you are happy with the position of your text open
the layers palette and click on the + sign next to
vector layer, to open up the sub layers.

On the sub layer containing the ellipse,
click on the eye to place a red X over it.

Your name should still be visible, but the ellipse
should be hidden. Go to
Layers...Convert to Raster Layer...

Go to Selections...Select All...
Selections...Float...
Effects...Plugins...Flaming pear...SuperBladePro...
Apply the same SuperBladePro preset that was used on
the netting (or another preset of your choice).
Deselect

Go to Layers...Merge...Merge Down...

Step 9.
A perspective shadow looks quite effective with this tag,
but before we add the shadow we need to change the
background, otherwise we won't be able to see it, so
make the bottom layer active and flood fill it with white
(or whatever colour the page is that you will place the tag on).

Make the layer containg your image active again.
Go to Effects...Plugins...Eye Candy 3.01...Perspective Shadow...
Use these settings

vanishing point direction=68
vanishing point distance=99
length=53
opacity=52
blur=3
colour=black

Step 10.
You can leave the background plain white if you wish,
but I added a coloured layer and applied a mask.

Open the sg_stormclouds-mask and minimise it (feel free to
use a different mask if you wish).
On your main image add a new raster layer. Change your
palette's foreground colour to a colour of your choice,
I used pale blue (#ADC6D9) and flood fill the layer.
Go to Layers...Arrange...Send to Bottom.

Make the white layer active, then go to
Layers...New Mask Layer...From Image...
In the source window dropdown list choose
the sg_stormclouds-mask
Create mask from source luminance
invert mask=unticked

Merge All

There is some excess white area around the edges which you can cut
off using the Crop Tool if you want to, then resize to your taste.
I resized mine to 70% resample using bicubic.

I have placed the tag against a white background here
If you want to use it on a coloured page, it would be best
to use a matching colour for the flood fill in step 9

For this example I used a different tube, font and SBP preset.
The text on this one looked better starting from the left side.
